Sailing east, degrees of latitude decrease. Accordingly, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, or Vineyard Haven, occupying the Northeastern region of the Vineyard, are “down” Island.
These are the main population and commerce centers. Edgartown, the shire town, is the Island’s capitol. Edgartown also encompasses the island of Chappaquidick, a stones throw from the center of Edgartown, but accessible only by ferry. Vineyard Haven is the sole year-round port, and is the least seasonal of the town centers. Oak Bluffs, the resort genesis, features fun for all ages, including the spectacular ocean front links of Farm Neck.
